Little Did You Know (free) 04:11
You peek your head from under the sheets, unwilling to greet the day I had this thought we’d sleep 'til three but I fool myself a lot Has all this work we’ve done just to forget one another all been in vain You wipe the sleep out of your eyes; you stretch then brush your teeth I had this thought you’d stay awhile but just who was I kidding, you always leave you’re a Fleeting traveling thought that never seems to stay in one place Little did you know I’ve been watching you dance around the room like you’re thirteen You’re trying to play it cool with your cards to your chest but I see what’s up your sleeve You’re out the door its slam wakes me up and it seems this was all a dream They’re getting more real almost everyday so why can’t I just stay awake and give us both the Opportunity to find someone and In the process learn we’re not the only People who’re in need of our affection that’s Been through fire now here’s its resurrection Little did you know I’ve been watching you dance around the room like you’re thirteen You’re trying to play it cool with your cards to your chest but I see what’s up your sleeve Yeah I see what’s up your sleeve

about

Originally written by Josh on guitar, there was a little concern upfront about how we’d pull this tune off live. It’s a delicate song with lyrics softly sung over a fingerpicked acoustic guitar. First, Ben came up with a great drum part that lent perfectly to the fingerpick style. Then we had Andrew move to keys and Tom to bass, leaving Josh on guitar. Now, a little out of our comfort zone, we began to look at the song in a different way. It finally seemed to come together. So, back in January at the No Comfort release show we played it for the first time, with friends Russ Pahl on pedal steel (one of Nashville’s absolute best steel players) and Brooke Waggoner singing background vocals. We liked how it came across so much that we decided to record it.

Weeks later, we found ourselves in Russ Pahl (Willie Nelson, Elton John) and Billy Sanford’s (Roy Orbison, Don Williams) home studio, who were gracious enough to let us come track the song. We kept the same instrumentation in the studio as how it was played live. Russ laid down some amazing steel playing on the tune, as you’ll hear. Thanks to him not only for his playing, but also for the studio usage and production help!
